My Spiritual Journey: Savanna Mapelli

Every month, I will introduce you to someone I’ve met along my spiritual path who has inspired me. Meet Savanna Mapelli. She is certified by the Mark Morris Dance Group to teach Dance for PD. She teaches humanitarian law for the American Red Cross and publishes widely on human rights. She recently enjoyed a table reading of her first play, To Be Frank, directed by Victoria Buda.

Tell us about your life's journey and what brought you to this place?

My life journey is reflected in my evolving physical reality as I moved to the Northeast USA with my husband in my late 20s after living all my life in the provinces of the rural South, except for a few years abroad in the Netherlands and India which forever changed me. Traveling to Europe and India in my early 20s opened up recesses of my mind that may have otherwise remained closed. Then, it took me decades to feel comfortable in the Northeastern United States and finally, a corner of Bucks County, where I feel at ease. So my life journey has been a process of feeling comfortable in my own skin by accepting realities in my physical space and learning to open up to different adventures, people, and ideas.

What lessons have you learned along the way?

I've learned that while it's vital to trust the process and the journey and trust vibes from people and places and approach life as earth-school, it's equally important to maintain strong boundaries and dismiss whatever insults my soul (to quote W Whitman).

Where does your happiness come from?

My core feeling of emotional happiness on a daily basis comes from movement. I take every opportunity to bounce around (gently) to music. Also, I experience scraps of happiness in spurts from people and creatures who come across my path: animals and sincere humans.

What inspires you?

Nature, in general, inspires me to live simply and with acceptance and to find the beauty.

Who inspires you?

Dedicated visual and performance artists inspire me by living and working so bravely at their art.

What gets you excited about life?

The possibility of leaving the Earth a bit better than I found it and connecting with soul families.

Can you share a breakthrough with us?

Learning to trust my intuition took many, many decades, which only solidified during the pandemic due to discovering the books and IG of Laura Day and others.

What is your superpower?

Seeing clearly the deep goodness in many people.

How do you stay connected to your higher self and the universe?

Lots of hikes in nature and contemplations in empty chapels. Sometimes tequila.
